Re-living High School Memories

Gerishna: “If you don’t cut your hair by tomorrow, I’ll do it for you, right here, in the morning ceremony!” This was Mr. Ashofteh, brandishing a pair of scissors in front of an audience who could not hold their laughter. These were former students of Mr. Ashofteh, who were graduated 20 years ago, and were laughing at this play-acting by their former principal in Seyyed-al-Shohada high school.

HighSchoolNostalgia

This was the general mood of the evening.

It all started with a simple beautiful idea: “We thought we could gather the former students of this high school who were graduated in the 1990s,” says Ali Akbar Shahmohammadi, “and recreate our memories of those days as a tribute to our teachers.”

And so they did on the eve of May 16th, in the yard of their old high school. The students, some of whom teachers by now, lined up in front of their old teachers, read from the Qoran, and performed morning ceremony. By the time they all sat down to tell memories of the old days, one could see how delightful that simple idea had turned out to be.

“This turned out so sweet that everybody agreed to have the same ceremony every year,” says Shahmohammadi. Yes, the run-away kids of yesterday cannot get enough of their high-school today. Well Done, Teachers!
