The Mound of Gaal Registered as National Heritage

۷Berkeh: The Mound of Gaal (called “Ba’re Gaal” in local language) was officially registered as the fourteenth national heritage site in Gerash on May 14, 2016.

The mound is composed of stone and red soil and is located among palm groves on the south-east of Gerash. Objects and remnants of constructions found around this mound show that this area has been the dwelling place of the first inhabitants of Gerash, reaching back to the Sassanid period about two millenniums ago. Stories tell that these inhabitants were followers of Zoroastrianism (called “Gabr” in local language.)

Abdol Ali Salahi, one of the members of the Society of Cultural Heritage Lovers in Gerash, told 7Berkeh that registering this site in the list of national cultural heritage was necessary, “since evidences show that the history of the site goes back to pre-Islamic period”.

“No exploration has been undertaken in this site”, says Javad Asadi, the director of the Office of Cultural Heritage of Gerash, “but now we hope that with archeological explorations, the history of the site comes to light.”
