Gerishna: This year’s slogan for “Health Week”, from 21st to 27th of April, was “Food Safety, from the farm to the table”. However, most of the special programs of the health network of Gerash, on top of which stands the College of Medical Sciences, were not directly related to this slogan.
The week began in Tuesday morning, April 21st, with a symbolic gesture: ringing a “health chime” in an elementary school and entertaining the students with healthy food boxes.
The next day, as another symbolic gesture, the whole staff of the College of Medical Sciences went mountain-climbing. Dr. Bahmani, the dean of the college, said he hopes that “this sport would become a tradition, not just a formality in a certain week.”
Dr. Abdollahi, the well-known cancer surgeon, had a lecture for the female personnel of the health network of Gerash about the examination of the breast and the prevention methods for developing breast cancer. In this seminar which was held in Cancer Prevention ّFoundation (read about the foundation here), based in Amir-al-Momenin Hospital of Gerash, Dr. Abdollahi warned against the increasing number of breast cancer in the region and the immediate need for further education of the people to reconsider their life-styles.
Setting up a “health station” for the Friday prayers was another program that was carried out by Student Basij of the College of Medical Sciences. They measured the blood pressure, Height and weight of the people attending the Friday Prayer, and provided them with useful information about keeping the blood pressure in check and consuming healthy food.
The culmination of these programs was a public report given by Dr. Bahmani in the Friday Prayer on April 24th. The dean of the College of Medical Sciences who presides over the whole health network of Gerash dedicated most of his report to talking about the achievements of Health System Reform Plan (read more about the plan here). “As the polls show”, stated Dr. Bahmani, “the plan has acquired public satisfaction”. At the end, he emphasized that people’s comments and suggestions are always welcome, since they help to improve the health system.
